Zeiss Terra ED Vs Nikon Monarch 7 10×42 Binoculars Detailed Comparison
Magnification and Objective Lens Sizes
Both the Binoculars have the same magnification i.e. 10X with 42mm objective lenses.
Build Quality and Construction
Both have a comparable fit and finish and are easy to use binoculars. The build quality of both the binoculars is extremely good. They feels sturdy and rugged enough in hands.
Both binoculars have rubber exteriors for a solid grip in hands.
The Terra binoculars are assembled in China, however, the objective lenses are made in Germany by Schott.
The Terra Ed has a large focusing wheel which is nice and easy to fiddle with and allows faster focusing mechanism than the Monarch7.
This feature of Terra is typically useful in action sports or focusing quickly on moving objects
Optical Performance/ Image Quality
Both the Binoculars provide optimum Image quality in the price range.
Zeiss’s Schott (ED) glass provides excellent resolution of details and facilitates color distinction as well as sharpness.
However, in Zeiss terra, ED 10×42 slightly more Chromatic Aberration is seen at the center of the field of view which increases towards the edges.
The Nikon Monarch 7 with its ED (Extra-low dispersion) glasses and, multicoated optics and lenses makes the image stand out with Chromatic Aberration as minimal at the sweet spot.
I felt happy with the low light performance for both the binoculars owing to the large 42mm objective lens in both.
Also, The ease of getting into focus is slightly quicker in Zeiss Terra ED than Nikon Monarch 7 10×42.
Field of View
The Nikon Monarch 7 10×42 presents a wider field of view to the eye than the Zeiss terra Ed 10×42.
The Monarch 7 provides a 351ft FOV@1000 yards while the Zeiss terra Ed provides a 330ft FOV@1000yards.
Wider FOV means you would be able to scan a large amount of outdoor area while searching for your objects through the binoculars.
The minimum focus distance is 5.25 ft in terra ED 10×42 which is 8.2 ft in Nikon Monarch 7, So for bowhunting or birdwatching Terra ed would be more preferable than the Nikon.
Eye relief
The 16mm eye relief of the Monarch 7 makes it a more preferred binocular for people wearing eyeglasses over Zeiss terra ed which has an eye relief of 14mm.
If you use binoculars for a long time a bigger eye relief can prevent eye strains.
Weight Consideration
Both the binoculars are compact, I would rather say mid-size. They are of almost the same weight. So, on the basis of weight they fare almost equal.
Pricing
Both binoculars are available at almost the same price point.
Also, Nikon And Zeiss provides a lifetime warranty on their products.
Conclusion
The wide field of view of the monarch 7 makes it an ideal candidate for hunting, wildlife viewing and, cruise adventures.
For Birdwatchers and Bowhunters Zeiss Terra ED 10×42 provides a great advantage in the form of small minimum focus over Monarch 7, So, in that case, Zeiss Terra would be a preferred choice.
Monarch 7 also provides a well-defined image owing to the low Chromatic Aberration at the center of field of view, so If you are extremely particular about the best image clarity Monarch 7 is the best choice.
Finally, We came to the conclusion by comparing all the features, advantages and disadvantages; Nikon Monarch 7 10×42 edges out Zeiss Terra ED 10×42 in overall performance in the range.
