Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 Review
I am a proud owner of several binoculars including Nikon’s Monarch 3 and 5 models. Although I have enjoyed the performance of my Monarch 3 and 5, I could not pass out on the opportunity to compare the two to their pricier cousin the Monarch 7. So on one sunny day in April 2021, I decided to buy myself a pair of Nikon’s Monarch 7 binoculars.
This binocular comes in two variants the 8X42 and the 10X42. In this review, I will be focusing more on the former variant as I have written several Nikon binoculars review on the 10X42 version. Below is my honest Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 review based on what I have observed.

Compact Design
The main difference I noticed among the three Monarchs is in size. Interestingly, the Monarch 7 is the smallest of the three, while the Monarch 3 is the largest. While all Monarchs have a width of 5.1 inches, the Monarch 3 and Monarch 5 have a length of 6.0 inches and 5.7 inches respectively. In contrast, the Monarch 7 measures 5.5 inches in length. Needless to say, I was surprised at the compactness of the Monarch 7 as compared to its cheaper siblings. The three Monarchs have a rubber exterior that offers exceptional grip, especially during rainy days.
Field of View
Another significant difference among the three is in the field of view. Given that I used to the Monarch 3 and 5’s small field of view, the Monarch 7’s great field of view was a breath of fresh air to me. Compared to its counterparts and other binoculars in its price range, the Monarch 7 has a great field of view. The Monarch 7’s field of view stands at 419.2 ft at 1000 yards. This Monarch 7’s compared to the 330 ft at 1000 yards field of view of both the Monarch 3 and 5.
The optics
A binocular’s optics is vital to its performance. Thus, one of the things I look out for when buying a binocular is the quality of its optics. Given, the great optical performance I had come to expect from my Monarch 3 and 5, I was expecting to be thrilled by the Monarch 7’s performance. And thrill me it did, similar to its counterparts, the Monarch 7 is fitted with high-quality fully multicoated optics. Thus, it produces images rich in details and contrast. Also, its light transmission was second to none in its price segment.
What is it made of?
The Monarch 7 manufactured from the same lightweight polycarbonate material Nikon uses in the making of the other two Monarchs. Covering the binocular’s polycarbonate chassis is a rubber armour that protects it against knocks and bumps. The roof prisms on this binocular are phase corrected and feature a dielectric coating. As with the other two Monarchs, the Monarch 7’s chassis is both water and fog proof.

Conclusion
The Nikon Monarch 7 is one of those binoculars that is causing a price shakeup in the optics industry. At its price tag, the Monarch 7 is almost up there with high-end optics.
As such, this is binocular that will give you a premium experience without the hefty price tag attached. When I compared it to other binoculars, I found that this binocular is perfect for bird watching.
However, it performed exceptionally well as a hunting companion. So if you want a great binocular that will not cost you much, this is binocular for you. It is my hope that this Nikon binoculars review has been of great help.

the Monarchs. But they are honoring the old Lifetime warranty for people who purchased before the warranty terms changed. Check with Nikon USA
